Face painting can be a fun hobby and a great way to make money, too. Once you’ve mastered this art, you’ll have no troubling finding work at all sorts of events and festivals. Here are some tips to help you get started learning this fun skill.

  1. Take a class. There are many resources available to help you get started. You can even find free tutorials on You Tube that can give you some basic skills. As you move beyond the basics, find a professional class that can increase your skills further.
  2. Buy a book. There are several books available that can give you step-by-step instructions on how to paint faces. You’ll be able to perfect several different looks using this method.
  3. Buy the right face paint. There are different brands and formulas of face paint. Some is much easier to use than others, especially when starting out. Stick paints are generally easier to use for beginners because of their texture. As you become more proficient, you may want to experiment with airbrush painting, too.
  4. Practice. There is no substitute for practice. On your way to becoming a professional, volunteer your services at events at local schools, churches and small festivals. You’ll get the chance to practice and the organizations will be very grateful for your services.
  5. Develop some signature looks. Most face painters have a few signature looks that they use over and over. As you’re practicing, make it a point to develop your own face paint designs you can use for many different occasions. Having a few looks perfected will allow you to work while still developing new designs.
