Most companies manufacturing lead brick weight products will use the same general measurements and overall weight. This will be a two by four by eight-inch brick that will weigh approximately 26.67 pounds. There can be some slight variance in the weight, but they should all be in the vicinity of 26.6 pounds.
The lead brick weight is important in the types of applications in which these bricks are used. The flat lead bricks, which offer smooth, flat sides all the way around the brick, are most commonly used for the construction of shielding barriers and walls for both x-ray and imagining facilities or rooms as well as nuclear facilities or areas where nuclear technology is in use.
There are also lead bricks that are designed to interlock. These are ideal for permanent types of installations as well as the development of lead caves and vaults. With the interlocking edges, more elaborate and complex shapes can be created, providing the required protection for equipment or individuals.
Options for Safety
While the lead brick weight and shape will be essential, so will the safety of using this product. All untreated or unfinished types of lead bricks do pose a potential safety issue for anyone coming in contact with the surface. Additionally, dust and residue from these bricks may be transferred to other materials, objects or items, resulting in the increased risk of exposure to lead.
To address this issue, lead bricks can be treated to trap the lead dust and residue and prevent direct contact with the lead surface. The two most common options include an epoxy coating, which is applied in two coats, which is a good option for most permanent installations.
Powder coating is the other option for treating lead bricks. This is a highly durable surface that doesn’t chip or scratch, making it a good option for high traffic area or when the bricks will be moved occasionally to frequently.
