Facial Feminization Procedures for Male to Female Transwomen

by | Aug 2, 2018 | Transgender Surgery

Many transgender women seeking gender reassignment from male to female choose to have some form of facial feminization surgery done as part of the process. These procedures help give the patient a more feminine appearance on the neck and face. There are many different surgeries available and the process can be customized for each individual and their needs. We’ll look at some of the most common below.

Rhinoplasty

This surgery is used to help refine and soften the appearance of the nose. In many cases, this involves reducing the size of the nose, narrowing the nostrils and nose bone, and lifting and refining the tip of the nose to give a natural female shape. This surgery can have a major impact on a woman’s appearance when done by a skilled surgeon.

Brow Lift

The brow lift is one of the most effective surgeries available, which involves moving the eyebrows to a higher position on the forehead. The procedure is minimally invasive and takes advantage of small incisions in the scalp. Sometimes this surgery is also called endobrow or a forehead lift.

Hairline Advancement

This procedure moves your hairline forward, which results in a more feminine face shape and may also make you look younger. Hair transplants and scalp advancement surgery help build a more feminine line on the face and eliminates a receding hairline.

Tracheal Shave

With a tracheal shave, the cartilage that makes up the Adam’s apple is reduced to provide a more female-appearing neck. After the procedure is complete, you can expect to have a more elegant neck that appears longer.

Lip Enhancement

With this surgery, the length of the upper lip is reduced, which results in a feminine position and shape. Often this procedure is done in tandem with lip augmentation or enhancement. When seeking gender reassignment from male to female, this gives fuller lips and may be combined with lip implants for additional change.

Chin Reduction

With a chin reduction, a transgender woman can have a more feminine face. This surgery takes the chin and makes it shorter, narrower, and more pointed. Chin implants may be done at the same time, which adds to the projection of the chin.
