Pricing farming equipment in Bellingham can give an epic case of sticker shock. However, you do need modern equipment to run your farm efficiently. Therefore when you are being at a multipurpose piece of equipment like a skid steer for sale, you need to consider carefully exactly what you need versus what you want. Naturally, people to think of new equipment as better equipment. However, buying a good used or reconditioned skid steer can save you literally tens of thousands of dollars if you know what to look for.

New equipment comes in several different flavors. There is new model year, the previous model year’s unsold stock, and dealer’s lot models. You can generally find hefty discounts on the models from previous years as dealers try to make room on their lots. Models used by the dealer to demonstrate the equipment can also yield a significant price break.

Buying a used skid steer for sale can be a bit like roulette. You really won’t know what you’re getting unless you are buying from a Bellingham dealer who has provenance on used equipment or trade-ins. They’ll be able to tell you approximately how many hours of use it has, and whether or not it has been reconditioned. Just because a piece of equipment is on a dealer’s lot does not mean that it has been reconditioned.

Reconditioned units have been through extensive evaluation and repair. You will find that these units are generally under warranty, where a typical used skid steer may be sold as is.

Evaluate what you need very carefully versus what you can afford. Going into extensive debt just to get a brand-new piece of equipment can put a serious crimp in your profits when you are just starting out.
