Tip #1 Acclimatization

- Well-ventilated
- Roomy: It needs to have enough room to allow your pet to lie down, sit, stand and even turn around

- Secure: The crate needs to be secured in several ways. The pet must not be able to escape. The carrier must also not be able to shift around

Always make sure you have the proper identification on your pet. Microchip is the safest way but you should also have name and vet tags. In addition, you can always order a collar with the pet’s name and phone number. Make sure all ID is attached firmly.

If possible, train your dog to drink from a sport’s water bottle. This allows you to give him or her water on the trip quickly, easily and efficiently. If not, make certain you pick up a collapsible water (and food) bowl.
Tip #7 Not in the Vehicle Alone
Never leave your pet alone in the vehicle. This is true whether the weather is hot or cold. This is common sense. On a long trip, leaving an animal in the vehicle alone can heighten his or her sense of insecurity.

Pets, like people, require pit stops for long trips. Make sure you know when and where to get out. Some service stations or rest stops have fenced in areas for traveling pets. This helps reduce the danger of the animal getting scared and running away. In any case, be sure the leash and the collar are secure and you are in command.
Tip #9 Medication
Some pets do not travel well. For them, you may require some form of mild sedative. Talk to your vet about the advisability of doing so.
Tip #10 Feeding Schedule
It is not a good thing to feed your pet on the way unless essential. Make sure he or she gets food and water three or four hours before departure.
