Are You Confused About Engagement and Wedding Rings?

by | Nov 29, 2017 | Jewelry Designer

Whether it is a super surprise or an expectation when the love of your life requests your hand in marriage, the moment does help you pose many questions that should not be answered immediately. How long do you wear the engagement ring and what do you do with it when you acquire a wedding ring? Do not rush at this stage because it is better to concentrate on the acquisition of unique engagement rings before thinking forwards.

Tradition and Modern Society

While it is traditional that the individual doing the proposing should have purchased an engagement ring in advance, this may not be the best decision. The other individual that will be wearing the engagement ring for hopefully, the rest of their life, may wish to have a say in the type and style of ring chosen.

Modern society allows a proposal without a ring and confirms that the purchase of unique engagement rings can happen a few days later.

Traditionally, the initial ring is always worn on what is now called the ring finger on your left hand, apart from some cultures around the world that where the engagement ring is on the right-hand.

Choosing unique engagement rings and taking the time to make the right decision is more important than presenting an unattractive ring, for the receiver, on the day of a proposal.

While you would have thought that one individual will know exactly what the other requires, this is not always the situation.

Changing Fingers and Hands

Most receivers of an engagement ring prefer to continue to wear the ring after they are married. Somewhere the engagement ring is worn next to the wedding ring on the same finger, but tradition suggests otherwise.

During your wedding day, tradition tells you that the engagement ring should be moved to the 3rd finger on your right hand because your spouse will be placing the wedding ring on the ring finger of your left hand.

The choice is, of course, yours. However, choosing unique engagement rings that you are both pleased to wear for the rest of your lives is more important than deciding where to wear the ring.
