Looking for a Vet in South Loop?

Are you currently located in Chicago’s South Loop and are looking for a trustworthy vet for your pet?  When it comes to health care for your pet, you more than likely want to be sure that they receive the best possible care. Here are some things to put on your checklist when looking for a vet in South Loop.

Compassionate Care

No one wants a grumpy doctor to handle their “furbaby.” You want a vet that will put a smile on every time they see their fuzzy patients. The doctor should be dedicated to their patients and their owners.

Some of the basic vet services that your chosen practice should have available include full preventive care, heartworm testing, vaccines, parasite control, senior health screening, allergy testing, nutritional counseling, and spay/neuter surgeries. They should also provide dental care, ultrasound exams, digital radiology, and pharmacy services.

Allergy Testing

Allergies may seem like a minor condition, but if they are not properly taken care of they can lead to more serious ailments.  The vet you choose should know that it is crucial to find the symptoms early on in order to treat them as soon as possible.

When it comes to pet allergies, they mostly come in the form of skin disorders. Some symptoms of these skin disorders include odors coming from the skin or ears, inflamed ears, scratching, hotspots, flaking and dandruff, excessive licking, skin lesions, runny eyes and/or nose, hair loss, itchy bumps, and frequent shaking of the head.

Oher allergies could be related to your pet’s food. Symptoms of food allergies can show up as diarrhea, any of the above skin issues, and vomiting.

Senior Pet Care

Just like humans, senior pets need lots of extra care. Some pet owners may not know this, but your pet’s senior years actually begin at six years of age.  You need to be sure that your pet is getting a proper senior medical exam by then. This medical exam should include specialized lab work and/or bloodwork, weight and diet assessment, and routine cleanings and advised dental care.

Regular blood work will help to determine if there are any changes occurring in the pet’s medical needs. If there are any changes needed in your pet’s care, your vet should know how to handle it and be able to walk you through the process.
