Ab1825 Training-It’s the Law

by | Jun 2, 2017 | Education & Training

Since 2007 the Ab1825 law has been in effect in California as part of the Fair Employment and Housing Act. The law is clear any company that has more than 50 employees must provide Ab1825 training to their supervisors. More importantly then the fact that it is a law, is that it is good for your business. There is no room for sexual harassment in the workplace.

Bad Behavior
The fact is the reason that Ab1825 training laws were passed was because of the number of sexual harassment and other harassment cases that were being filed. Bad behavior is detrimental to the entire organization and creates a work environment that is:
*Less productive for everyone
*Hostile for everyone
*Destined to fail

When incidents of harassment occur, it is not just two parties that are involved, it is typically many people that are involved, some passively. The environment becomes very stressful and reduces productivity. It is not just the parties that are actively involved that are feeling the stress. It is the members of the organization that feel the stress, that are carrying the burden of knowing that affects productivity.

Hostile Environment
The work place must be a sanctuary of sorts where the only situation that is being gauged is the work. Harassment in the workplace makes the environment hostile. Employees start “choosing sides” and expect that the supervisor will be able to step in and calm the situation.  Many times, the supervisors are not sure what steps they should take.

The Training
The right training helps your supervisors to make the right decisions that protect the employees from this situation and that protect the corporate entity as well. Training makes a difference in outcomes and in limiting unacceptable behaviors. It is the smarter way to do business. Interactive Services can help!
